Application Deadline: Friday, March 10, 2023

Who we are:
The Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE) is an international professional association founded in 1944. We advance the study and application of lubrication between interacting moving surfaces and strive to improve the performance of equipment and products, conserve resources, and protect the environment through best friction management practices. This interdisciplinary field of tribology and lubrication engineering encompasses aspects of physics, chemistry, biomechanics, applied mathematics, material science, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering and/or applied mechanics.

Eligibility and Award
Students from all areas of tribology (research, synthesis, manufacturing, orthopedics, testing, and nanotribology) are invited to participate. Candidates should be graduate students or 2nd year or above undergraduate students studying in the geographical areas from which the STLE Chicago Section draws its membership.
The awards will range from $500 to $2,500 per student, with a total of $10,000 to be given out. The distribution of awards will be based on the merits of the students who apply.
The winners may be invited to attend one of the Chicago Section technical meetings as a guest to be introduced to the Section membership and will be invited to make a brief (≈15-minute) presentation of the research.
To apply for the scholarship, submit these four items:
1) The application form below
2) A recommendation letter from a professor
3) A 300 to 500-word essay describing a research proposal related to the field
of lubrication and wear. Pictures may be included.
Please send it by March 10, 2023, to Robert Erck, Ph.D.
