Economics Minor Overview

  • Minor Application is Online and Always Open! We review at least every two weeks.
    • It just takes a minute for students to complete as most information is pulled automatically (they will just login, indicated Expected Graduation Date, Confirm they agree to the Statement of Intent for a Campus Minor, select the Minor Track, and Submit).
    • Our office reviews the applications at least every two weeks in bulk (typically more frequently, but we are unable to expedite or review individually).
    • Approved students receive an email about next steps and registration (the minor forms are emailed directly to their college office, and may take several days to be officially added to their record, they will need to wait to register for restricted courses until it has been processed).
    • Not Approved students receive an email including the specific reason(s) why they were not approved (ex. “ECON 102 not complete; MATH 220 grade below minimum required"). They will be provided an option to appeal if they believe something was calculated incorrectly (they may have a substitute course our system did not auto-pull, etc.). If they applied for the Econometric Track and were denied because they do not have the additional Math course (225) or substitutes, and they would like to do the Micro or Macro instead, they need to complete a new application.
  • The application and detailed information may be found on the ECON Minor Website at the bottom of each of the track pages (MicroeconomicsMacroeconomics  or Econometrics
  • All prerequisite requirements must be completed at the time of application with the GPA and/or Grade listed on the Minor Track pages (we accept all students who meet the grade/GPA requirements on each of the courses). Our online application pulls the information from their student record, so they need to make sure their record reflects the prerequisites.
    • Microeconomics and Macroeconomics Prerequisites are the same, but Econometrics requires the additional MATH 225 course (and does not allow MATH 234 for the Calculus requirement).
  • Prerequisites for the Economics Minor are set at a level consistent with our major to prepare for the advanced coursework required.

Proficiency Exams

We were able to open more space in the proficiency exams next week (Sept. 4 and 5). Please have students read the information on our website, register, or view the upcoming dates (tentative dates available for the end of this semester, as well as next semester).

Econ Proficiency Exams (sign-up ends on the 2nd)

Express Advising is available for quick questions: View Upcoming Express Advising Schedule

Students interested in the major and/or needing course planning should schedule an ECON Advising Appointment so we will have more time to discuss.

Economics Minors/Interested Minors welcome during Express (we will not meet with them for advising appointments, so if their questions are not answered by the websites, Express is their only option).

Courses

We will not be lifting the restrictions currently on our courses (ECON 303 and 400s), and all sections are opened to the maximum capacity. Students must be declared majors/minor to register.
