School of Chemical Sciences Advising Leaders
The School of Chemical Sciences (SCS) is currently accepting applications for SCS Advising Leaders. SCS Advising Leaders represent the University of Illinois, the College of LAS, and the School of Chemical Sciences. They serve as a positive example to current students, write blogs to educate and inform students, hold workshops, create videos or tutorials for educational purposes, represent the School of Chemical Sciences at recruitment events, and perform other duties.
The Advising Leader will have the following RESPONSIBILITIES
- Answer prospective and admitted students’ questions about SCS, Illinois, and the student experience
- Write at least 1 blog post every month in fall and spring
- Serve on panel discussions to educate students about academic, personal, and professional success
- Represent SCS, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, LAS, and Illinois in a positive manner
The SCS Advising Leader position will help students develop the following SKILLS
- Verbal and written communication
- Leadership
- Presentation
- Collaboration
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Current Chemistry, CS+Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering student
- Must be a sophomore, junior or senior
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Appreciation of various experiences, diversity, and inclusiveness
- Professionalism: timeliness, honoring commitments, and dressing appropriately (business casual)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 2.8 GPA

- Prospective Student Meetings (fall)
- Illini Days (spring semester)
- Majors and Minors Fairs (fall semester)
- Other LAS and departmental events
