The main stacks in the oldest section feature these solid bookcases that also function as structural elements of the building, meaning they can not be moved. Six bookstack additions were added on to the Main Library to handle the expanding need for space. The oldest sections are problematic, presenting major fire safety issues, as well as not being designed to preserve books with their high heat and humidity levels during the warmer months.
