Mnova NMR Software

Mnova NMR data analysis software is available free to students, staff, and faculty with your net ID and password. This is a perpetual license package good through version 15.0.1. The 5-license package will continue to work perpetually, however it may expire 90 days after leaving campus.

Note:   If you are upgrading a current Mnova version, the old version need not be removed.  In your current Mnova program, go to File > Help > Check for Updates, and proceed.  Activate the new licenses as described below in section 6.  Otherwise, to obtain your own copy of the 5 Mnova NMR licenses and the Mnova software, follow these instructions carefully:

  1. Register for Illinois Box. Confirm you are a registered user of the Illinois Box system.
  2. Download and save all 5 licenses.  Note: You will need to log in with your Net ID and password from a campus-secured website.
  3. Download Mnova NMR version 15.0.0 to your computer. If necessary, scroll down to “Download previous versions” and click on “15.0.1” and download the version appropriate for your computer.
  4. Install the software. Locate the MestReNova-15.0.1-***_x64.msi file on your computer and double-click the file. Press Next when ready to proceed and follow the instructions. Note: Prediction and qNMR are both included in Mnova 15.0.1.
  5. Establish a Secure Network Connection for Activation
    • On Campus: It is recommended that you use a wired internet connection on campus to activate the licenses. The campus unsecured Wi-Fi network will not allow license activation. However, you might be able to use a secured connection such as IllinoisNet Secure Wireless Service.
    • Off Campus: You must connect via the Technology Services Cisco AnyConnect VPN to establish a secure campus connection before activating.
  6. Activate your licenses. Open the Mnova NMR software, and it will instruct you on how to activate the 5 licenses. If you are not prompted:
    1. Double click on Licenses (lower right), press Install, and follow the prompts to direct the installer to license 1. Repeat the license installation step for each of the 5 licenses.
    2. Once you activate all 5 licenses, restart Mnova. 
    3. Proceed to use the Mnova software. The software will work if you aren't connected to the Internet, however on-line support features will not work.

On-line tutorials are built-in for nearly every feature of the Mnova software via File  > Help > Download Examples. You may also download the Mnova manual.

Common problems:

  • Installation will not succeed if only part of the Mnova program has been downloaded. A Wi-Fi download might be incomplete. If needed, download using a wired connection, or ask for a copy from a friend via a USB stick.
  • The key directory created is Mestrelab Research S.L
  • If license activation is attempted while not on a secured, campus network, the program will not run. Again, a wired connection seems most reliable, and look for https:// in the web address.
  • As a reminder, download version 15.0.1 only.
