Position Title: Clinical Research Assistant
Duration: 1 year 
Where: Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush University Medical Center, Sports Medicine. Chicago, IL.
Start Date: There are 2 on campus start dates; June 14th or July 5th
Salary: A monthly stipend is provided

Dr. Adam Yanke is seeking ambitious medical school bound students who are interested in pursuing a year-long clinical research fellowship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL.  Dr. Yanke works with the renowned Division of Sports Medicine and is also the Assistant Director of the Cartilage Restoration Center at Rush University. Dr. Brian J Cole and Dr. Adam B. Yanke direct the Cartilage Restoration Center.  Drs. Cole and Yanke are both leaders in developing innovative biologic methods for addressing early cartilage damage in the knee, shoulder, elbow, foot, ankle and hip. This unique position will allow the research assistant to work closely with gap year medical students, residents, fellows, and faculty at Rush. The research assistant will also have extensive opportunities for publication and presentation of research at various conferences.

Prerequisites for the position include:

  • Ability to start on campus on either one of the 2 start dates
  • Completion of research training program at Rush during first 2 weeks of fellowship
  • Passing of research training competency prior to participating in research activities
  • Strong motivation for a career in medicine
  • Evident interest in research
  • Strong academic record
  • MUST be extremely organized and detail oriented
  • MUST have strong communication skills
  • MUST be able to self-manage and work independently
  • MUST be able to work efficiently with clinical staff        

The research assistant will work very closely with the Clinical Research Management team and research coordinators for the other sports medicine attendings.

Fellowship responsibilities may include:

  • Coordination of all of the principal investigator's research projects including both clinical and basic science studies with guidance from the Clinical Management team
  • Submission of protocols and updates to the Institutional Review Board (IRB) with guidance from the Clinical Research Management team
  • Follow good clinical practice for informed consent and inclusion/ exclusion research criterion
  • Entry of forms in process note in the REDCap document
  • Data entry into EMR platforms and upload research procedure documents to electronic platforms
  • Collection of intra-operative data as well as following up with patients in clinic and/or by phone
  • Drafting/editing of sports medicine/orthopaedic surgery manuscripts, abstracts, and book chapters    with guidance from the Clinical Management team
  • Presenting research updates at weekly meetings with the Sports Medicine attendings
