SCS STUDENTS ONLY
- A student must have completed the shop course and used the shop for at least 8 hours under professional supervision and be approved by the Student Shop Supervisor before being allowed access to the SCS Student Machine Shop after posted working hours.
-
When using the shop after posted working hours, AT LEAST TWO PEOPLE MUST BE PRESENT AT ALL TIMES. OF THESE TWO, ONE MUST QUALIFY WITH RULE #1. ONLY THE QUALIFIED PERSON IS TO USE ANY EQUIPMENT IN THE SHOP.
- Both must sign-in on the after hours log book. The qualified person is responsible for the safe operation, cleanup, and appropriate use of the equipment and tools.
- Cameras triggered by motion sensors will be in use. By entering the SCS Student Machine Shop after hours you consent to having your actions recorded. Anyone tampering with or disabling these cameras will be barred from shop use.
- Any setups found in mills or lathes must be left in place. The shop director’s tools and equipment are off limits to all personnel.
- As part of the sign-in procedure, the user must describe the nature of the work to be done. The shop is exclusively for work supporting the mission of the University of Illinois. Use for personal projects or non-university projects is prohibited.
- The shop is to be left at least as clean as it was found. Broken or dull drills, end mills, cutters, etc. are to be left for the Student Shop Supervisor’s inspection. Normal wear is expected. Tool breakage is not.
Should these rules be violated, access privileges may be withdrawn for periods proportionate to the infraction. Admitting an unauthorized person to the SCS Student Machine Shop is grounds for denial of access privileges. Multiple infractions by an individual may result in denial of access to the SCS Student Machine Shop by a research group for a period of time. If safety or security proves to be inadequate, after hours access may be terminated. Machine Shop Supervisor has absolute authority to deny access to anyone for any reason deemed to be sufficient.
