The School of Chemical Sciences Mass Spectrometry Laboratory (MSL) provides a wide variety of chemical analysis using mass spectrometry techniques for organic and biological samples. The facility is located in Noyes lab with offices in rooms 35 and 37 and labs in rooms 41 (primary room), 21, 25, 42, and 46.
The MSL is capable of performing analysis using many different ionization techniques including: low and high resolution electron impact (EI), low and high resolution chemical ionization (CI), low resolution field ionization (FI), low resolution field desorption (FD), low and high resolution fast atom bombardment (FAB), low and high resolution electrospray (ESI), low resolution matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI), MS/MS (ESI and MALDI), isotope ratio (FI), GC/MS (EI, CI, and FI), and LC/MS (ESI). The mass spectrometers used to perform these analysis include eight Waters instruments (a Synapt G2-Si, a Q-tof, ZMD, three 70-VSE, a GCT Premier, two Quattro Ultima; two Bruker MALDI instruments (an Autoflex Speed LRF and an UltrafleXtreme TOFTOF); and a Thermo LTQ XL Orbitrap.
