CHEM Course Restrictions
Fall 2026 CHEMISTRY COURSE RESTRICTIONS
Students who are looking for a seat in a closed chemistry class can fill out the Chemistry Course Seat Interest Form.
Please see the information below to learn when restricted courses will open to non-majors. The department will not provide overrides for these courses before the restrictions are lifted.
Restricted to majors only until ~10 am on May 1st:
CHEM 236, Fundamental Organic Chemistry
CHEM 237, Structure & Synthesis (lab)
CHEM 312, Inorganic Chemistry
Restricted to majors only until ~10 am on June 1st:
CHEM 440, Physical Chemistry Principles
CHEM 442, Physical Chemistry I
The Chemistry Department does not have a waitlist for closed classes, so we suggest you use the Favorite Courses to be notified if seats open up so you can register for them.
CS - Computer Science Course Restrictions
http://go.cs.illinois.edu/csregister
has an updated “Current Registration Restrictions” link for Fall 2026. Your students who check Course Explorer at https://courses.illinois.edu will already be familiar.
Information on this page includes
-prerequisite overrides for special cases (e.g. if a student takes a transfer course prerequisite over the summer)
-time conflict overrides in limited circumstances
-registration unrestrict dates for different groups, including Grainger-tuition-rate students and campus
NEW THIS YEAR: We have a select set of 400-level CS courses which are OPEN TO CAMPUS immediately.
Undergraduate prerequisites are still enforced, but non-CS students can register right away for classes such as
CS 415, Game Development (prereq CS 225);
CS 418, Interactive Computer Graphics (prereq CS 225 and a linear algebra class); and
CS 441, Applied Machine Learning (prerequisite CS 225 or CS 277 as well as a 300/400-level stat/probability course).
Students should review our restrictions page carefully, but if they have followup questions, undergrad@siebelschool.illinois.edu can assist.

STAT Course Restrictions
: https://stat.illinois.edu/academics/courses-and-registration. As a quick reminder, most advanced STAT courses are restricted to students within our majors during priority registration or longer. The specific timeline of restrictions can be found here: https://stat.illinois.edu/registration/fall-2026-registration-information
New this semester:
Our department now is enforcing the prerequisites for the following courses: STAT 207, Data Science Exploration; STAT 410, Statistics and Probability II; and STAT 426, Statistical Modeling II. This means students must have the prerequisite courses on their record in order to be allowed to register for these second-in-the-sequence courses. Students who have credit for the prerequisites for those courses as listed in the Course Explorer, or who are registered for the prerequisites through the University of Illinois this semester, should not be impacted by this enforcement.
| Course | Prerequisites Needed |
| STAT 207 | STAT 107 |
| STAT 410 | MATH 241 and STAT 400 |
| STAT 426 | STAT 410 and STAT 425 |
If your student is currently taking a prerequisite course through another institution, or if they have transfer credit that is not appearing on their Illinois record at this time, they can request a prerequisite waiver here: https://go.illinois.edu/StatPrereqWaiver Please note that this form is only for STAT 207, STAT 410, and STAT 426 prerequisite accommodations. Other restrictions by major, class, cohort, etc. may still impact a student’s registration in STAT courses. See the links above again for restriction information by STAT course.
ECON Course Restrictions
For ECON course restrictions, please see the Department of Economics Restrictions & Overrides page.
